Although most people think of South Beach when the subject of Miami Nightlife comes up, for locals and in-the-know tourists, there are a select few venues off the beach that are worth checking out.

One of these is 'The District' brought to you by Jose Ortiz and Aramis Lorie of I/O Lounge.

Jose says 'The District is a new restaurant/lounge that has arrived in the heart of the Design District to save us all from boredom this summer. DJ Beta 01 will inspire the sharp crowd to flip up their collars, boogie down on the floor and don't be surprised if you end up kissing a beautiful stranger'.

Here Jose answers more of our CoolJunkie questions:

1) Why the location off the beach?

Because South Beach is saturated with restaurants, bars and clubs. Everyday a new spot opens with little character and innovation. The same faces, the same music format, you see where I am going with this.....

2) What is the concept?

The concept is to give people the option of doing something fabulous closer to home. You don't have to schlep to South Beach and deal with the parking, velvet rope nazi's and $15 cosmos to have a good time.

3) What is the music policy?

The Music in the Lounge varies nightly:

Thu - Indie Rock, Dirty Pop & Electro

Fri - 80's, Rock & Hip Hop

Sat - Sexy House

4) What is the crowd like?

The crowd is very eclectic You can have a punk, a model and a suit in the same room with no problem. That's the beauty of the diversity in the design district. We attract a crowd of upscale clientele meets downtown chic and everyone gets along famously.

5) What is the food like?

The food is New American Cuisine. The menu is based on different districts from around the US. There is a late night menu of Tapas or light appetizers. (The menus can be seen on our website)

6) Are there any special events, happy hours?

There are constantly special events. It's an indoor/outdoor venue which makes it ideal for birthdays, dinner parties and corporate events. We will be opening a new room in 3 weeks, which will be available for private parties of 50 or so. There is a happy hour every night. We are open Mon - Sat.

7) What are the opening hours?

We are open for Lunch - Mon thru Fri.

The Restaurant/Lounge is open Mon - Sat.

Brunch on Sundays

8) Is there a website?

The website is www.thedistrictmiami.com
